I have a Humminbird 383C GPS/DF, which has been great for my needs. Never had a problem with it, until today. Not even sure if it was a problem, or user error. Started the day in the Egmont Channel, (about 44' at center of channel) and no problem reading the bottom. All was right with the world, except the lack of fish, so I decided to move. I went to a spot about 15 miles out to about 50-55', and when I got there, I noticed I wasn't getting a bottom reading or a depth reading. I checked to make sure the xducer was still mounted correctly (didn't hit anything and pop), and it was.
Without having a clue about the bottom, I spent an hour wasting my time, and then decided I would head home and see if I could figure out why it wasn't working.
When I got back into the ICW, everything was working properly.
Now, when I'm cruising, the depth never works (says I'm in 940' or so, with thousands of huge fish below me), which I know has to do with wash interference, etc.
Why did it stop working in the 50' range? I went into my setup screen, and noticed some settings weren't right; said freshwater instead of salt; 200khz, not 200/83, and a couple of other user preferences weren't where I thought I had them. All other user input (waypoints, totals, etc.) were still there, so I'm lost. Any ideas???
