So when I was putting the water jacket back on, getting in a hurry, I dropped a bolt and of course it goes down the exhaust tube lol. I remember there wasn't much of anything that blocks the bolt from going into the L/U, so that's where i know it is. Is it a big deal to leave it or will it cause problems? I don't wanna take it off but at this point I'm going to, just to be safe unless otherwise instructed.

Re: Haha funny question

I've seen some pretty strange stuff come out the prop. Heck I've even seen wrist pins from pistons. They didn't quite make it all the way out but you should do it right and pull the l/u.

I was trying to find a cutaway view and it looks like it would cause problems. Gonna pull it. Thanks. Btw, guess how I found out #2 on my signature? Lol

Maybe if you lay the motor on it's back it'll fall out?

Re: Haha funny question

Laying it down depends on the size of the engine (As the OP didn't say). If it's a portable up to say 25HP, then yes, laying it down might help. But bigger engines and even more so those that are remote controled, it becomes a hassle to disconnect the cables and such just to be able to get it off the transom, and then you may also need a hoist. I think dropping the lower unit would be the best oiption.

115 mercury is a little big to turn on it's back lol. Dropping the L/U is the only way to go.

Okay, well I didn't see anywhere you specified the size of motor.......until post #6, so yes, in this case, dropping the lower unit would be the best option.

Re: Haha funny question

If it went all the way thru you can pull prop and get it out with magnet, if not pull the unit.

Re: Haha funny question

There's a big enough gap for a 5/16 bolt to come out where the prop is?

Pulled the prop and voila, there it was... 5 min vs 45 min, thx for the tip. Also found a piece of metal 3 inches long that had broken off from somewhere in the exhaust tube or a piece of it.
