There's a trout farm not too far up the road... kinda sad way to fish unless you're with a 2 year old though. Whitewater Trout Farm.

Tons of Indian Casinos. Take your pick.

Take the tram up to the top. That's kinda neat.

Oh yeah, look for roadrunners.

Re: Hailing Q C

I am 90 miles from Palm Springs. Yes, Frogger is correct, Tramway (awesome), Indian Casinos (one near main drag downtown Palm Springs). It's only two hours to the Colorado River too, but that section would be hard to find anyway to rent a boat or something like that. Lake Hemet has some planted trout which is only a 30 minute drive. The streams are pretty small unless you head up toward Big Bear on Highway 38 (northwest about 50 miles or more) on the Santa Ana River there should be some decent fly fishing. There might be fly fishing up off the tram too. I'll get you some links here in a minute or so . . .

Lot's of desert or mountain scenery stuff, should have snow up on top of the tram. How much free time you gonna have? Will determine how far away I should look.

Or you could drive down . . . ;) I'd actually like to. If I can figure out an excuse I just might. A lot easier when I am traveling for business though . . . Harder to get a hall pass when I'm home ;)

I'll meet for some skiing? He is talking February . . .

Fly Rod,

The fly fishing looks pretty thin except possibly what I have linked here. I am gonna keep poking around, but I still think the Santa Ana river would be the best although that will be a drive. If you like hiking around though, Tahquitz Falls or definitely the Aerial Tram are the ways to go. The tram is unbelievable as it goes form near sea level to a plateau on the side of a 10,000 foot mountain. 10 minutes from Palm Springs proper. Amazing views and scenery up there. Nowhere else really like it in the world.

TAHQUITZ CANYON: 500 W. Mesquite, just west of Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs; http://www.tahquitzcanyon.com/ or (760) 416-7044. Open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: Adults $12.50, children $6. There is no additional cost for the 2 1/2-hour guided hikes, which depart at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

Santa Ana River stuff

So Cal Freshwater fishing forum
