Half Power

I've searched through all the library and not had the sucess I need. My 60 horse force (1985) is giving me fits. I can get out on the lake and run for hours at full throttle and only get 1/2 power. I have replaced the tank, Primes bulb, fuel line to the pump, pump diaphram, torn down and cleaned the carbs. I have decarbed and tried a couple different types of plug. Occasionally when I first get out on the lake I will give it full throttle and it will take off and start to get on plane but then bog down. The rest of the day I will bury the throttle and it seemd to run okay but I never get near being on plane. It fels like a john boat with about a 25 horse opened up full. The motor is on a 15 v hull. I really don't want to have to take it some where to be $$$$$ worked on. Could this be my cd ignition. I have good spark to both cylinders in the drive way but I am lacking something when it is under a load.

Re: Half Power

I'll bet it's only running on one cylinder. Cruise around awhile at half power, then shut 'er down and feel the plugs. The one that's cold is the one not firing. Might be something easy like a coil. When you decide which cylinder is not hitting, switch coils and see if the miss moves. If it does, replace the coil. Also check stuff like loose or worn wires.
Lettus know what ya find.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

Re: Half Power

I'll have to go with a coil is breaking down under load. Since you cleaned the carbs. Hopefully you got the high speed jets good and clean.

Re: Half Power

Check the trigger wires where they come out from under the flywheel. It is preety common that they break inside the insulation and lose and make connection. When its not running good take the hood off and wiggle the wires on the trigger assembly right where the little tie strap is. (Be real careful of the flywheel)

Hope that helps.

Re: Half Power

Trigger wires are fine and tested them per the book and all was fine. I swapped the coils and it runs the same way in the drive that it did before. Here's something I did that relates to something I saw in one posting. I made 2 templates (flat) with holes cut out in them. One with a 1/2 inch hole and one with a 1 inch hole. when i place the smaller hole over the # 2 carb the rpms decrease but the motor still runs. When I do the same to the # 1 Carb the motor will stall from lack of air. this is the same before and after swapping the coils.
