If you want a great garnish to serve your ham with, take two parts grape jelly and mix it with on part Dijon mustard. Don't overmix, it looks cool kinda clumpy. Very tasty, use it like a meat sauce at the table.

It's worth it and very easy. Put it in a little dish and call it Ham sauce. Don't tell them what it is . . . ;)

Rub it and coat it with mustard, then poke about 20 whole cloves into it.

Mom used to cut the skin/surface about 1/4" deep in a diamond pattern, making about 1" diamonds in the surface, then poke a clove into the center of each diamond.

Don't know what temp or how long she roasted (baked) it, but I would try 350* for a few hours.

It was hands down the best ham I ever ate.

I have no idea why you have the log-on problem rogreen. If you like using the traditional mustard/honey/pineapple type recipes get a big can of cherry pie filling and toss in with it. The slight bitterness of the cherries makes a really great contrast to the sweetness of the rest of it.

Or you can use Marischino (sp?) cherries.

I just get a big piece of foil, make it into a dish with the ham in it, pour half a jar of runny honey in there with it along with some drambuie then pinch it up at the top.
Low heat, several hours-just keep checking it. When it looks nearly done open the foil up to let the juices reduce but not enough that it burns.

I rubbed my ham with gray poupon horseradish mustard, stuck some pineapple slices on it and basted it with a reduced mixture of pineapple juice, brown sugar and six pepper mix. It tasted very good. I buy them cooks butt portion bone in hams. They are cheap, moist and I like the flavor better then most hams I have tried.

What?, Nobody made "Red Eye" gravy

I actually rub honey on my ham, diamond slices, sliced pinapples held on with cloves and a merrichino (sp) in the middle of the pinappple slices.

But we always made "Red Eye" gravy. :)

Re: Ham recipts??

A couple of weeks ago Alton Brown of the 'Great Eats' series (the Food Channel) did a show all about ham; what it is how it is, and how to prepare it. Bottomline, pass on any ham that isn't bone-in. There are three grades of what we call ham:

100% ham - cured, needs to be reconstituted, the best choice.

Mostly ham - actually, 1/2 of a ham, comes in a bag, 2nd best choice.

Ham & water - this thing shaped like a an Easter egg, cames in a big can, virtually flavorless compared to the other two.

How to prepare ham:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_15538,00.html

Note: the recipe for "city ham" is for the 'mostly ham' mentioned above. At the bottom of that recipe page is a link for the "country ham"...that's the really good stuff, 100% ham.

1 bottle of honey mustard and i cup of brown sugar mixed together.
Score surface of ham with a sharp knife in a diamond pattern, spread sugar/honey mix all over.
Cook on 300 degrees, covered for about five hours. Baste frequently.
