I handcrafted a wood boat, my question is, the transom on the boat is made out of 3 pieces of 1/4 plywood, that are reined together and has fiber glass cloth on both side, I have a 20 hp outboard on it, I would like to know if anyone thinks that will be strong enough to hold that motor?
Thanks for all the help.

That seems a little thin to me. I run a 20 on my aluminum boat, and it has a 3/4" ply transom that's expoxied, in a addition to the metal transom.

what are the dimenions on the boat? do you have pics?

pretty sure that 3 pieces of 1/4" plywood and some light cloth wont support a 20hp. maybe a 5hp

I built a boat as well. I would never build a transom less that 1 1/2" thick. I would beef it up. Don't forget to include knee braces.

I too built one from scratch out of Oak for frames and marine Mahogany plywood with lots of purple marine glue. Even with a knee in the center, I too think you are too thin for 20 hp; 5 1/2 hp with a knee brace, might work ok.
