Hi, I have a Saturn 12' and I don't know for what ever reason comes with a pair of handles on the tubes but on the inside (see photo).
My question is: did anybody installed extra handles and how can be done properly. Thank you
Paul

Re: Handles

The nice thing about inflatables is the ability to easily add things like handles, D rings, etc. whenever and wherever desired. Check here http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product_list.asp?deptid=1090 for the handles, the goodies necessary to install them, and the free and easy to follow instructions for doing it right the first time. Don't hesitate to call them with any question even if it seems like a silly one to you. They're really nice people and will help you any way they can (and no I don't work for them:rolleyes:).

Thank you for your fast replay but the handles they have on NRS website are for rafts, what I'm considering are this in the picture. I was wondering if the handles on the boat were welded or glued, if they are welded if I add extra handles glued it may be not strong enough

Re: Handles

Although the design is different, the part of your Saturn that floats is nothing more than a raft, so the NRS handles (or similar ones from another vendor) will do the trick, and if applied properly will be extremely strong for a long time. Just curious; what is it about the handle in the pic that makes you like it better? Can't tell a whole lot from the pic.

Re: Handles

The handle in the picture looks like the one that I have on my boat and are for PVC boats.
From what I understand the ones that NRS have are for hypalon rafts and I'm not sure if PVC and hypalon "like each other". One the other hand is very tempting because for the price of the one in the picture I can buy 2 from NRS

Re: Handles

I see. No, PVC and hypo are not the best of friends. For PVC this should do the trick. http://www.riverconnection.com/handle-inflatable-raft-boat-cataraft-p-137.html Might as well go ahead and add a couple of D rings while you're gettin' high off the fumes.;) Also, I'm not saying the one in the pic won't work. I just can't really tell anything about it. Really, as long as you use a handle meant for PVC and follow the application instructions to the letter you'll be fine. Piece of cake partner.

Re: Handles

That handle position is intended for one man rear, one man front handling position, just 2 mates to move/carry the sib, can add all the handles you need, will require fabric cleaner, 2 part pvc glue and pressure tools. Find rear handle & air valves tube position " horrible". Cannot glue Hypalon handles to a pvc sib, are different materials and glues.

Happy Boating

Thank you all for your help.
I think I'll go with the handle from riverconnection. The reason is that on the handles page they have a model close to the one I wanted but has to be installed in their shop, so is not a DIY job.
Thank you again

Re: Handles

Sounds good Paul. Though I was joking about getting high on the fumes (sorta:p) you really will thank yourself if you go ahead and decide whether you want to add any other goodies that need to be glued on; more handles, D rings, etc. before you place your order. The most expensive component is the cocktail of adhesive and cleaner, and that stuff has a finite shelf life, so you might as well get the most out of it and your labor. Also, there's a guy who goes by drownedrat who bought a Saturn and tricked it out. It's really cool. Do a search in this section and/or PM him if you want to be inspired. He hasn't posted on here in a while so he may not even see a PM, but if he does see it he'll respond. One more thing; do yourself a favor and order a peel and stick type patch kit from Riverconnection to keep in your emergency kit. If you ever have a nasty surprise it'll be the best twenty bucks you ever spent. Good luck Paul. Let us know how she turns out. The funnest part to me is getting her dialed in.

Re: Handles

Paul,

Defender offers the molded grab handles that you are looking for.

For Hypalon boats: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|294|314563&id=708435

And I know for PVC boats, because that is where I bought mine. Might have to call and ask them for that though. I went into the store and they had them.

Good luck.

Parts designed for hypalon can be adhered to PVC boats with Stabond, but it isn't recommended for load bearing applications.
