Good Morning. This motor generally runs very well. it had a slight cough but some good fuel additive & adjusting the carbs did the trick. the only issue is the first start of the day. it takes a good 10 - 15 seconds to fire up. what usually works is to give throttle while cranking & then back off when it fires but that should not be necessary. Battery is new, fuel is good. once warm, it will restart instantly. i'm thinking timing or that enrichment valve is not right. (i have it closed) This engine seems to NOT have a mechanical choke. Any ideas....... thanks

i am confused. below is from another post. it sounds like "normal" is where it's supposed to be all the time. then if you need help, you open it. then would you "close" it or put it back to normal position. I ask because mine has all three positions (normal, open & closed). when i got the motor, it was open (motor ran like crap)...... so i closed it. (motor runs much better but is hard to start. ?- are you saying it should be left in the NORMAL POSITION?

If left in the normal position it will enrich the fuel to all cylinders until the heater unit heats up the wax pellet inside and pushes the valve closed. The voltage comes from battery charging system of motor while it is running.

If things are messed up(motor will not start because of plugged up carbs) then you can turn red switch to open to allow fuel to be pumped into the cylinders to get it fired up, but once running you need to turn to closed to make it stop dumping the extra fuel.

normal is the correct position.

Might need to clean carbs and follow link and sync procedure in service manual after installing the carbs.
find the owners manual to read also as you should not raise fast idle lever to start a prime start motor
