hard start and buzz noise

I have a 1978 Evinrude 85HP and it is hard to start but once started it runs for the rest of the day. This weekend I noticed when I tried to start, it will crank like usual and when it is about to start (1/2 of a sec) it will immediately make a buzzing noise. I will have to try to crank a couple of times and it will buzz each time. Then it will finally crank and fire up. What would cause it to make the buzzing noise? I have already replaced spark plugs. The old ones were fouled and way out of gap. I was hoping that was the problem but did it again after the new plugs was installed.

where is the buzzing coming from...if under the motor cover ..remove it to see it the bendix is rising to engage the fly wheel....they make a buzz if the are stuck....if its stuck try to spray it with a little brake cleaner or carb cleaner to break the junk up....then oil it with 3-1 oil.....if it still does it u need to start to trouble shoot the starting system...

also make sure all the connections from the battery to the starter are cleaned good...shiny good...ground's also

Thanks Al-53 for your input.

The buzzing noise sounds like it is coming from under the motor cover, so I will check the bendix. If it is the bendix, will it do that every time the motor cranks up? Because, once I get it fired up, I can stop and start the motor rest of the day with no further problems. Knock on wood...

if u clean and oil it right it should be fine....some oils gum up and once warmed they loosen a bit....so clean it with a spray type cleaner..no need to drench it just a couple quick shots of say brake cleaner....the click the starter a couple times and then oil it..like I said 3in 1 oil works great..does not gum like wd-40 will.....just 2-3 drops of oil is fine...check connections also....
