I have a 1959 Evinrude Golden Jubliee 10 hp outboard motor. It ran fine for awhile but recently it won't stay running. Wondering if anyone out there could answer a few questions for me. 1. How does not having the right gas mixture effect the performance of the motor? 2. How does having a cracked magneedle cam effect the performance of

Any pictures of this " magneedle cam " ??-----Or did you actually mean to say ----magneto cam ?-----Fuel mixture should be 24:1 on that motor !!-----Oil is mixed with gas to lubricate the internal parts.----Not sure why you ask about " performance " here.

There is the fuel (gas:eek:il) ratio, as well as the air/fuel mix. The air/fuel mix is a function of the low speed and high speed needles at the carb (think yours has both). Yours may be rattling loose, giving you poor running or stalling. Once you get them adjusted, there is a jam nut to snug up, keeping the needle setting in place.

Initial setting for the l.s. needle is about 1 1/2 out for lightly seated -- about 1 turn out for the h.s. needle. Final settings for both will likely be leaner (clockwise).
