Hard starting Evinrude

This vacation seems to be more working out bugs than fishing, but, the weather's crummy anyway. The motor I've been writing about--1975 Johnson/Evinrude 115 cost me a little over $1000 at the shop to hook up, tune up, etc. Now, after using it for about a week, it's developed a hard-starting problem. When I go out in the morning, it takes forever to start. Once it does, it's fine and runs like a booh the rest of the day. It's just had a carb rebuild, new spark plugs, etc., so I don't understand the problem. Could the spark advance screw be too far out/in? thanks, blt

Are the choke butterflies closing all the way? They may appear to but push on them to make sure.

What spark plugs?

The shop replaced them with Champion plugs--I haven't looked for the number. I'll check the butterflies. If they are staying open a bit, what do I need to do?

Just adjust the solenoid so the plunger doesnt bottom out. Then they should close. And the Champions are OK. I'd use a standard "J" gap style like the (Q)L77JC4 or 78.
