I have a 1989 100hp Mercury Outboard, gravity fed oil injection. The motor runs great at idle and high speed but is hard to start even if its warmed up,changed the plugs but still hard to get started. It always will end up starting after awhile of trying.
Im thinking maybe a choke problem but Im not a great mechanic. Anyone have any ideas?

Does the primer solenoid click when you press in on the key switch? Are you holding the key in while trying to start? Are you using the warm up throttle?

Not sure what the primer solenoid is or how to tell if it clicks. I am using the warm up handle and pushing the key choke in.

Make sure you are following the starting procedure as stated in the manual....

You may be doing that, but I thought you might check before you start tearing into the motor...

Have you tried starting it without pushing in the key switch (when warm starting)?

When warm , the motor don't need additional gas to start , pushing in on the key switch can make the engine to rich , foul the plugs and make it hard to start.
