Still she is a pig to start when hot, i got her hot let her idle for a couple of minutes, then switched off, then i quickly took off the spark arrestor and had a gander down the carb, there did not seem to be any fuel dripping but there was quite a lot of steamy looking vapour swirling about at the bottom on top of the butterfly/flaps/plates whatever you like to call them, is this to be expected or is my carb due for a rebuild?

Mine was doing the same thing. I am rebuilding my carb now. I believe you are getting leak-down from the carbs bowl into the manifold. Basicly flooding your engine between stops.

Sounds like a carb rebuild to me. Has it ever been done? If not, and that's an '82ish engine, you're going to be very glad you did it...;)

yes i did it 2 years ago, although i did not find any apparent problems, maybe i missed something or should have replaced the float as a matter of course in a 25 year old boat?

I hope that is the problem, I was looking to see if 25 years later there is a better carb available for a 3.7? good luck with your rebuild,:)
