I have a 6 cylinder 115hp mercury with electric choke. The problem is when I try to start when cold it's almost impossible.I push the choke switch and I can smell and if cover off engine gas will come out the carb but no start.Usually I stick a rag in the center carb and it tries to start but can still take a long time.Sum times I kill the battery trying to strat the engine .Any possible answers to help me with this annoying problem will be a great help thank you

Re: hard starting

Do you have choke plates or the enrichener? Have you advanced the throttle using the cold start lever or "Throttle only" button?

It sounds like your carbs are flooding, are they?

It is the enricher.Yes I use the throttle lever and it can't be flooding or it would get worse when I use a rag to choke the carb not better. Is there an adjustment I could set on the cold start lever? If there is how do I adjust it?

Re: hard starting

When I say carbs flooding, I mean externally into the cowling, not into the motor. That would be a inlet needle or float problem. Enrichener should allow fuel to run down carb throats.

OK, Trim the motor all the way down. Pump up the primer, advance the throttle and hold the choke button down and crank the motor until it starts. Does that work better?
