Hard Steering 1996 Maxum 2000scl 3.0LX

Intermittent smooth steering underpower. All speeds. Little harder to the left at times. No power steering pump that I can see. All speeds. Very rare click at helm. Steers like old manual steering Internationl Truck. Seems just OK on lift or trailer. Help.Please.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Yer right, ya don't have P/S,.....

Disconnect the cable from the tiller arm, 'n decide whether the drag is in the drive's swivel pins, or in the steerin' cable,....

If the drive, it needs to be lubed,....
If the cable, 'n helm, they need to be replaced,....

Turnin' the torque tab over the prop will help with the hard left turns,....

Thanks for your quick reply. Cable seems fine. Have some mechanical abilities, Have rebuit bike and truck engines some time back. No real knowlege on boats. What's the next step. Pardon me if I seem ignorant. Turning seems like sticky spots in the outdrive, side to side. Thanks again.

Ayuh,..... When the cable was disconnected, did you swing the drive to see if it's bindin',..??

Did ya pull the Big nut on the aft end of the cable, 'n see whether in easily slides in, 'n out of the aluminum mountin' tube,..??
