My 96 Larson 174Sei does not have power steering & its has gotten harder to steer over the last two yrs. Is there any way to service the rack& pinion steering? I have applied a marine grease to the steering "bar" that connects to the tiller/outdrive. That has not seemed to help.

Thanks for your help!

Mark

Re: hard steering

I have heard of people removing the cable assembly, hanging one end, and fashioning some sort of funnel around the elevated end. Then they put some oil in the funnel and left it for a few days. the oil slowly gravity fed its way out the lower end into a pan. That seemd to work well for them. The other way is to spend a bit of loot and buy a new cable. You may also want to check your motor, make sure it is not binding, you disconnect the cable from the motor to check this. Good luck...

Re: hard steering

Most OB have grease fittings on the vertical part. 2 shots each. They also have a screw for turning tension. Steering wheel housing bearings need oil or grease.

Sorry guys...I should have said 3.0 I/O Volvo Penta.
I have looked for grease fittings before, but no luck. Where might I look for a tension screw?

Mark
