I recently damaged the prop on my 1984 27' Searay. I can get a new one from MercCruiser for around $600.00 but was hoping to find a used or reconditioned one. What I'm being told around here is, Good Luck. It's 19x19, Big! The outdrvie is a TRS drive. Is there a good web site for used/reconditioned props? or somewhere else I can look for one? I'm in the New England area.

BoatingMama**

Re: Hard to find propeller

I have bought several props on e-bay and saved $200-300 from dealer cost.

Might want to also try www.bargainnews.com there is a good selection of marine parts from Newengland area.

I take it you've already asked a prop shop about repairing the old prop? Those fellas can do amazing things..

Re: Hard to find propeller

Yes I did have the prop sent out to be repaired. I should have it back for this weekend. Only missed one weekend of boating. I thought it would be a good idea to have a spare on hand.

I have already looked on ebay but I didn't think about the bargain news. That's a great idea. I already have a 24' Searay posted in there for sale. Thanks for the suggestion.

My 27' Searay has a big block, huge out drive and the biggest prop I ever saw on an outdrive. I guess it would have to be to push all that boat.

In the meantime I'll keep searching.

Happy boating.

Boating Mama

If the spare has to be a spare only, buy any that fits the drive. Specs won't matter if all it has to do is gettin' you home..

Re: Hard to find propeller

Seems like anyone with half a brain would not be hammering their boat WFO with a cheap, incorrect, only-to-get-me-to-shore prop on it. If you are that stupid then you certainly deserve to suffer the results.

Then again, this is America where nobody is responsable for what they do right? Then we will end up with a different shaft on every size drive so you cannot do that, and that will cost us lots of money for tooling up all those hubs and shafts, and stocking all those props, and ordering that goofy prop so you can wait for it and not be boating while you scrape up twice the money for it.

Idiots cost us all.

Re: Hard to find propeller

Well I finally got my prop back and it look brand new. Work's great, I even got a little more rpm's, maxing out at 45 hundred, I believe that's top speed for a 454. I'm still looking for another prop to have as a spare but it WILL be the right one for the drive, I'm not that stupid. If I need help getting home, I call Tow-BoatUS. I was wondering if Sloopy checked with your neighbor that collects props (19x19)? :)
