hard to start

i have a 6h evenrude outboard motor and latley its been a real bugger to get started. once it runs it works fine but will not idle. the idling may be the fuel mixture screw. anyway any suggestions?

Sounds like you might invest in a carb rebuild kit and install it. Probably have junk in there and maybe a jet that is partially clogged. If you post the year or number of your engine that would help. You can also check the FAQs for hard starting.

Doug - Make sure that you soak the carb in carb cleaner overnight - then get all visible crud out (I use a toothbrush) - then blow it out with compredded air - Do all this before putting in any of the parts from the kit. AND a shop manual is helpful unless you have done this before.<br /><br />OH AND WELCOME!!

thanks for the advice. as for the year of the motor i'm not sure. i found the serial # 6302s c 83946, does the serial have the year within the number?
