Hard to tilt Merc

I have a 50 Merc (1985) and when I try to grab it from inside the boat and tilt it up away from the boat ramp, it is quite hard to pull up. I use the rear handles on the prop side and foot on the transom to do this. Is there a better technique to use ?<br />It has 2 damper type units which prevent it from crashing back down if you lose your grip so it's slow to lift anyway. Is there a leverage device that can assist ? I am fairly new to boating but learning quickly....
