I got a Harley frame with a gas tank and rear wheel.
There are no serial numbers on the frame that I can find. Where would the serial numbers be located on the frame? I looked everywhere.
The guy I got it off of told me it was late 50's or 60's.
A couple of the pics I took did not turn out, but I do have one pic.
Can anyone tell me what year this frame is or what model of Harley this is, or anywhere on the net where I can find out.
I plan on restoring this bad boy if I can find some info on it.
Thanks,
B.C.

Re: Harley identification

if you have a somewhat decent picture you can e-mail it to me and I'll be able to tell you what it is. Or you can visit www.chopperweb.net and post it there. Not only will someone tell you what it is but they'll all help you through the restoration or rebuild process. They're the equivelant of iboats, just for bikes.

Re: Harley identification

I checked out the picture, and it looks like a Honda CB750 frame. Most, if not all HD frames (with the exception of a sporty or buell), will have a single seat post that goes in between the motor and tranny. Some newer style motors sort of have a mouting configuartion like that but it's definately an older frame so that rules those out.

If you can, take a good side shot of the frame and wheel you have there, even if it is that small, and goto http://www.hondachopper.com and post it there. Tell the guys that SuzukiChopper sent ya there. If they say it's not a Honda frame, then goto http://www.chopperweb.net and post it there. They are both message boards just like this one, just sign up for an account and post away.

If someone at hondachopper.com confirms that it's a Honda CB750 frame then I think you'll be much happier sticking around there and asking questions. Lowridertommy (http://www.lowridersbysummers.com) and Red Good or Cycle 1 Kate (http://www.design-cycle.com and http://www.cycleonemanufacturing.com) are the ones to goto for new parts. Lowridertommy knows his cb750's. There are also guys kicking around that forum that may be able to hook you up with a good motor plus a bunch of parts to get you going. (Lestat99 has a WHOLE bunch of parts, motors, etc)

My e-mail address is admin@design-cycle.com and if you need ANYTHING (advice, parts, where to look), just e-mail me. Design Cycle and Cycle One are both in Regina, Saskatchewan so we aren't that far apart :)

I hope this helps and if you even want, if you e-mail me a good side shot of the frame I can post it for you, but it'll be more beneficial for you to.

And BTW, you're going to end up will a cool chopper when you're done :)

Re: Harley identification

Thanks SuzukiChopper,
I think you are right about the frame. I looked up the Honda CB750 and the frame looks similiar to them.
I guess I am not as happy as I was before(thinking I was a happy harley owner), BUT, since I saw those choppers, I think I will start with this bike and see how it turns out. I think I am going to be pleasantly happy if all turns out good, which it should.
This is eventually what I want it to look like when finished. http://www.choppersbycarl.com/photogallery.htm
Nice eh!
I will go to Honda Chopper.com and sign up and see what I can find out.
Thanks again SC.

Re: Harley identification

Carl does some REAL nice work. Most of the rigid Honda's you see on his site were done using Design Cycle rigid frames (now cycle one). He's a really cool guy. You picked some nice bikes to shoot for. Again, you need any help let me know.

(I did confirm 100% that is a cb750)

Re: Harley identification

Awesome! Thanks SC.
I am now in the process of starting my bike project.
I know this is going to turn out real nice.
I had planned on spending about $10,000-15,000 on the bike.
What is your estimate of me fixing this bike? I would like it to turn out like this one.
http://www.choppersbycarl.com/photogallery.htm
Just wondering. I have lots of time to do it. I am giving myself at most, 3 years to have it finished.
I also plan on taking pics thoughout the whole building process.

Re: Harley identification

Honestly I wouldn't spend $10,000 on it. It also shouldn't take you 3 years. A good running motor should run you $300 and because you have the budget for it I would send it to Wayne and Sons (check the HC website for his link) and have the thing hot rodded (you'll be happy you did). You'll want to find a chromer to chrome the covers and such. Ken at Cycle Exchange (also check the HC website), has a cool aftermarket carb set you may want. The forward controls used on the bikes by Carl are most likely PM Controls (polished aluminum) and will run over $1000 (check www.design-cycle.com in the catalog for the forward controls). Also Carl uses the West Coast Chopper Villan gas tank, and I believe the 1-ton ho rear fender (this can all be found on the Design Cycle catalog as well). If you don't know how to MIG or TIG weld then you're going to have that cost associated in your build as well. There are quite a few cool front ends available, I can hook you up with a Canadian Built springer for around $800 I believe.

I think if you spend $5000 on the complete build with paint you'll be laughing. If it turns out nice enough and clean enough you'll probably more than likely get your money back from it and can use the rest you had budgeted on a HD build and I can help you get started with that as well.

While we're on the topic of bikes, here's mine:

http://www.chopperweb.net/forum/articles.php?action=viewarticle&artid=93

all hand built by yours truly.

Keep my e-mail address handy and I will help you locate anything you need and help you find the best deals on things. Take care!
