I don't know if that's good news or bad. I never got the chance to find out anything about her.

I think Bush didnt really think things through.<br /><br />Its was like, "here is my friend, and she'll make a good judge, just trust me."<br /><br />Perhaps there is something more to this??? Perhaps this was a diversionary tactic to allow his real candidate to be appointed?<br /><br />Ken

Not likely Ken. <br /><br />I actually believe that they were not up to the fight.

I think it was done on purpose, he "threw the libs a bone" she was a woman, and had different views than some.<br /><br />He hoped she wouldn't make it or would withdrawl, IMO.

She was a lib in concervative clothing, good riddance. I also think she was a bone thown out for the libs to get all worked up over. Now there will be a "very" conservative person nominated.

She never had a chance. I think Bush seriously misjudged the reaction of his base.

I really didn't think Bush was thinking at all. As much as I would like to see more women in office.. This was not a right move.. I think she did the right thing as to step down.. Let someone else with more political experience to take the job. Someone that has a long standing record in the judicial system..<br />As for the bone throwing , I think this was like a small test to see how the real sharks will attack at a nice fresh piece of meat. As shown they tore it up...<br />Not a smart move Mr. President.

Harriet Miers is no liberal, Harriet Miers is a very well known quantity here in Texas, however she is an unknown quantity in the national political arena, to some it appears that she had not "paid her dues", who knows? there may well have been some hidden dirty laundry.

You better bet that W's next selection will be such that we libs will wish it was Miers.

Pardon me now, I'm headed for an Iraq protest demonstration.

The wheels have come off this administration. I am not particularly happy about that, but it was inevitable.<br /><br />The "Peter Principle" on full display.

I was shocked to read your post. I was always under the impression you were a far right republican Bush supporter. ;)

I remember when Bork was rejected they dedicated the AC/DC song "Have a drink on me" to him. :D <br /><br />Ken

Re: Harriet Miers Withdraws as Supreme Court Nominee

I really don't understand why the right objected to her. As Vlad says, she is a well known far right activist here in TX.<br /><br />I would have expected Kennedy and Biden to be foaming at the mouth. Instead I see right wingers saying she was a bad choice. I guess Teddy and Joe are chuckling about that.<br /><br />It's nothing new to nominate (and approve) people with zero judicial experience. The left's favorite Justice of all time was Earl Warren, who was a lawyer who spent most of his career in politics, including running for President. That was in the days when there was such a thing as a liberal Republican. I think Ike nominated him to make sure he never ran for President again. :)
