Has Anybody "Restored" a Spa/Hot Tub?

I've got a 30 year old electric heated spa mounted in my deck. It's still in great shape except for the wooden housing that surrounds the fibreglass shell. The wooden housing was poorly designed and constructed to begin with, so it has a lot of rot.

A new spa to fit in where the current one sits would be about $3500 - $4000 (its kind of an off-size/shape).

I'm thinking of building a new wooden housing and installing the existing shell/plumbing/heating into it. I know I can do a better job than the manufacturer originally did.

I like the old spa, the fibreglass shell is in great shape and the controls are the older, simpler type (no circuit boards, etc.) that I can trouble-shoot and repair myself.

Anybody ever done a project like this? Any thoughts?

Really a pretty simple restore, I have done it a couple of times, what issues are you concerned with?

Not sure if there are any issues. Seemed like a simple version of the job some of you guys do restoring old fibreglass boats. Just wanted to see if I was missing anything.

Really it is a pretty simple straight forward process, just build a new support system for it and fix any spots in the fiberglass that needs it, then finish in your desired color, the new restoration kits for bath tubs work quite well, then enjoy.
