This is a picture of a wreck in our local gulf. It was taken using a Lowrance elite 7 on its first pass. I was very impressed with its amount of detail considering a shop who sold this unit told me down scan was a gimmick and ill never be able to see a wreck with it.

Anyway id like to know where my boat was in relation to the wreck below. I'm guess I was not over the top but off to one side. Is it possible to know how far off to one side I am? I'm a scuba diver and would like to use this with the

I'm confused, what's with the peel off the protective film comments? Is there anyone who actually knows anything about down scan and can answer my technical question?

When new the screen on many electronics have a screen protector with an image that looks like what you may see while using it, typically in a best case scenario.

With down scan (or normal sonar) you don't know exactly where the object is under the boat, but sometimes there might be some clues. With side scan you can determine it's location much easier.
