Have I done the right thing?

I've just finished resurfacing the top face of the engine block where it mates with the cylinder head via the head gasket. This was to 'iron out' some slight damage to the end of one of the bores - caused by myself.

I've done a fine job and am pretty proud of the finish - but I'm now worried that this might not have been the right thing to do! I only took a tiny amount off and it has fixed the damage. I read numerous posts about resurfacing the head and have applied the same process to the equivalent surface of the block - only now am I questioning whether or not this was ok.

Could you let me know if this was ok to do?

Probably just fine as long as you kept the cylinders free of debris while you were doing the work. I'm thinking you more polished the surface than ground it down? Best of luck. Rick.

I kept debris out of the cylinders as you say. It was somewhere between a polish and a grind down. The aim was to remove material evenly to eliminate the scoring to the end of the cylinder bore - just didn't need very much removing.

Here's pics - the damage I was trying to repair is the small score to the end of the bore. I've yet to sort out the ragged bolt hole - chemical metal to fill the voids and a helicoil to be fitted. All came about as a result of my appalling efforts to remove a sheared bolt! Put that one down to experience.

Hope it's ok. My worry is that I was potentially removing the rim to the end of the bores, though it is largely intact as can be seen in the pics. The surface is flat against a straight edge.
