I have been trying to find the source of this noise - click here to listen - . Well I'm 80% sure that it's either coming from my Starter or my soleniod. The odd thing is that it comes & goes as I'm underway. Typically a rev of the motor will make it go away. The sound almost always will show up when the motor starts & I can make the sound show up by bumping the key over while the engine is running. Another member suggested pulling the flywheel inspection cover & see If I could find something odd. well I found nothing.

Have any of you guys ever heard a sound like this before. What could it be?

To answer any questions that are to come - it's a 1990 mercruiser 3.0 low hours. I don't rev the engine while on the muffs, & I dont bump the key over while the motor is running with the exceptions of the three or four times I did it today. I used a long screw driver as a stethescope to zero in on the sound. No recent maint has been done to the starter or anything in that area. The boat runs great. Sometimes when you try to start the boat I get nothing more than a click, if I try to turn the key over two or three more times it will start just fine.

Thanks guys.

TC
