having problem with getting lower unit to drop down

ok yall out there i nave a question, why doesnt the lower unit of my mercruiser wont drop all the way down, i have removed all bolts, nuts and screws, and it will only come down about a 1/2 inch to an inch. is there something still holding the unit there or is there something else that i cant see. I have a 1965 I/L4 mercury mercruiser 120/140 horsepower engine. I had a similar problem and it was caused by one of the trim rams seizing up. You can rebuild or replace the ram. To find out which ram it may be, just remove the aft anchor pin and let the drive hang down then operate you trim to see which one does not move. I think Akwolf is talking about getting the lower half split so he can change impeller, I,m not sure about the year drive, but did you shift it in full forward gear before you started to remove lower half, sounds like shift shaft is hung up,there may be a retainer holding the shaft, hopefully somebody will know that year drive better than me.
