O.K. I replaced my impeller and am now having a hard time getting my lower unit (mercruiser) on and working right. I can get it on and I'm making sure it is in forward gear by rotating the shift shaft and ensuring the prop won't turn clock wise and the throttle lever is forward. But when I get it together it won't shift into reverse (handle won't go back)and the prop freely spins when throttle is in forward. By the way it's 102 degrees here today. Thanks.

Its 100 in fort worth Guess we got the cold front. Sounds like your putting the gearcase in reverse. Turn shift shaftclockwise while turning the prop counterclockwise. Then stab it. Its only $140. to have a pro do it, How long did it take you? Just asking not ridiculing

It only took about an hour. We (me and my wife)had it in and out 3 times in about 2 hours. Thanks for the info, I'll try it. We only have two boat places here and they are both very high and about a week behind so.....
