Having trouble with Johnson 9.9 on my Pontoon boat

Hi all

My engine has been running great all season long. for whatever reason it will not turnover when I turn the key. No sound at all. No warning system beep engine does not turn over. Battery is fully charged radio, and running lights work. There is simply no ignition, when starting in neutral. It will start when I use pull cord.

Any thoughts

Corroded connection points at battery? I had that problem twice this summer. The connections were clean enough to carry current sufficient to run accessories but not sufficient to start the motor. Thanks for this, I will scuff up the battery contacts and spray on your suggestion. Man, if it is that simple I will be psyched. Its worth a try.

thanks for the suggestion, I know the starter is ok but the relay could be the problem, I was also wondering if it might be the solenoid

There is also a neutral start switch.Could be out of adjustment etc.

Which model?
The 'newer' ones has a fuse in the system.

If the fuse is blown you won't get anything at all. A faulty ignition switch could also. The solenoid could have gone bad too. There are only but so many things that could be wrong. Check that fuse first, then check your electrical connections for corrosion or damage. Then check voltage at your switch and at the solenoid.

Thanks very much for all of your help, you have given me some things to check out this weekend. I am new to boating and learning quickly that if you cant do your own repairs. Your in trouble, or soon to be in the poor house.

doesnt matter nothing beat being out there on the water fishing and cruising
