There are a few threads about the Hawkeye D10DX Depth Sounder a while back, but not too much info or responses.
I am considering getting this depth sounder to replace my now defunct Lowrance 1990's vintage

Anyone try one of these lately??? Comments. . .
Regarding the Thru-hull Transducer Mounting:
One of the issues that I have noticed with my boat is that the 24 degree deadrise puts the thru-hull transducers at their limits in terms of mounting angle. Since I have my boat taken apart, I have good access to mount the transducer right over one of the inboard lifting strakes, which would have the transducer pointing straight down. The mounting instructions for the Hawkeye warn against mounting the transducer directly behind a strake or right over the keel, but this mounting location would be right over the strake, so I am hoping the turbulence would not be an issue.
Besides . . . mostly what I use the depth gauge for is when I am approaching the shore, so I am going slow anyway, thus low turbulence. I find that when underway, there is too much turbulence regardless of where the transducer would be mounted.
Anyone have found the 'best' location for the transducer (this would be thru-hull rather than transom mount). ??
T.I.A. for your comments.
