My dash temp/heat light came on and I shut my 1964 Johnson 75 hp Eletra shift motor down quickly I then replaced the water pump which was in good shape I also swapped out the thermostat water is flowing and the Light comes on after about 5 minutes of idling.
Motor starts and idles fine.
But it does appear to very hot the heads are tough to touch for even a second or 2 so I believe the heat sensor on the block is working.

I have not done a leak down test, I'm thinking head casket or is there maybe some blockage in the Engine block passages.

Anyway how would you guys attack this problem.

Re: HEAD GASKET???

On an engine this age, check all gaskets. Head, and exhaust cover. After a compression test.
