1979 chrysler motor was purchased from a guy who told me they ran the wrong oil and it messed up the head gasket. Can this really happen? I tore the engine apart and didn't see any damage to the head gasket.

Re: headgasket problem

Running the wrong oil will not damage a head gasket BUT running automobile oil, specifically multi weight oils like 10w-30 will damage the engine. They do not mix with gas as well as TCW-3 oils and have additives that are harmful to two cycle outboards. Due to carbon build-up they can cause sticking rings, scored cylinders, and plugged exhaust ports as well as other problems.
