I think I need to change heat exchanger anode on mercruiser 5.7 l engine. Do you normally drain the antifreeze out prior to doing this? When reinstalling is teflon tape enough or is something else required. I'm usually 50/50 salt/fresh water. What type of anode? Aluminum?

Thanks

Re: Heat Exchanger Anode

no need to drain anything. the anode is in the seawater side of the heat exchanger. use pipe sealent with teflon or perfect seal tape may interfere with the electrical bond. for saltwater I try to use zinc anodes in them for saltwater use. save the AL anodes for the aluminium drives. the heat exchanger is copper/brass.
