My heat exchanger on my mercruiser 260 was stolen off of my boat. So I found a replacement but the problem is my system that is on board right now appears to be a half closed closed water cooling system. The heat exchanger that I have now appears to be for a full closed cooling system. My question is can i block one of the engine coolant ports on the top of the heat exchanger and route it directly to the thermostat housing .and can I put a tee on the raw water out so it can be routed to each of the manifolds?

Not to sure. I think you should be able to close off a coolant port so long as there is another one allowing coolant to flow. Same issue with the raw water side. What year is your motor?

I believe that you should set it up so that the water flows from the heat exchanger to the engine block and then out to the exhaust manifolds and back to the heat exchanger. There are special gaskets for the riser that block the flow of water from the exhaust manifold to the riser/elbow.

The raw water side would then flow through the heat exchanger and to the exhaust elbows.

Mercruiser has over 75 active heat exchanger part numbers. I would recommend geting the correct heat exchanger for your application. get the Mercruiser part number, and then contact Arty at Alfa Laval in sarasota.
