I have an A/C style heat pump with elec aux heat. Inside furnace a/c unit is Trane.
While trying out the heater, I turn on the heat pump and all is well, I continue to turn up the thermostat, kicking on the aux heat, and then a loud buzz eminates from inside the furnace in the attic.
I coincedentally just changed the thermostat to a digital one. New thermostatic is compatable with heat pump with aux heat (I checked it before buying). It is a "ritetemp" model 8050C.
I am not sure if the loud buzzing is a result of the heater not working all summer, or the new thermostat is causing it.
Wires from furnace to old thermostat are: R, O, G, Y, B, W
Now wires to new thermostat are: R, O, G, Y, W with B left disconnected as per new thermostat instructions.
My question is, is there wires I can jump to kick on the aux heat and see if the thermostat is the problem, or if my furnace has a problem? What is proper voltage to W wire to kick on the aux heat?
Thanks, Ken
