I have a 96 Malibu with a Indmar 5.7. The heater has never worked correctly ( not getting hot ). The engine temp is correct about 145-150. The Pplumbing goes from a nipple on the side of the recirc pump to the heater core and back to the top of intake manifold near t-stat. It appears as if these are both outlets. Could i use the top port on the recirc pump as an inlet? Hope this makes sense!

Re: Heater

It sounds like it plumbed correctly, bet money you have an air buble in the system between the heater core and the engine. Make sure the heater is below the top of the engine, not above it.

Re: Heater

The port on the water pump is the low pressure. The water flow is FROM the port on the intake TO the heater, RETURNING to the port on the water pump. Because the cooling system is pressurized it will APPEAR as if both ports are outlets.

As long as you have the heater hoses the right way round, that is the way they should be on the engine....

Re: Heater

Thanks Guys for the reply. The heater was infact mounted higher than the engine under the stbd dash. I remounted it lower and will test it today and post my findings.

You could probably mount it higher but you'd have to install some sort of a small transfer pump to move water through it. Otherwise it probably wouldn't happen.

Re: Heater

Reposting info i did not post for my Heater Issue. Been busy!
That engine was designed with two Thermostat locations. One in the normal location (Top of intake manifold) and the other was on the front of the Recirc pump. I found someone had removed the intake thermostat and installed only the one in the water pump! Long story short, puting the correct thermostats in the correct locations fixed the problem. Heater works great now.
