My 1957 35 horse RDE 19 M seahorse is currently sitting on a 1957 Herter's 16 foot flat bottom boat and the cavitation plate sits about 4 1/2 inches under the bottom.
With a 10 3/8 x 13 1/4 prop it runs at 3400 rpm and with a 10 1/2 x 11 3/4 it gets up to 4000 rpm.
WOT is supposed to be 4500 with a 10 3/8 x13 1/4.
How far can I bring up the engine, if at all, and still be safe from cavitation and will it improve performance?
Thanks for any thoughts and advice.

The cavitation plate should be even with the bottom of the boat....Bring it up 41/2"... :)

And yes it will improve Performance because of reduced drag.. You should then be able to reach WOT...

Re: Height of cavitation plate.

I agree with snapperbait. My 55hp was 4" below my transom, and I raised it up, wow does it make a difference. Although the jury is still out as to where the cavitation plate should be. Some people will tell ya it can be anywhere between 0- 1 1/2" below the transom. I think anywhere within 1" should do it. It worked for me anyways.
Happy boating rolmops
