I have a 1975 johnson 85hp V4 that the previous owner has apparently already pushed the spark plugs thread to the limit and I finished off the job this past weekend. Stripped it out of course......what would be my best route to fix this problem....I am assuming I can helicoil it but I figured i should ask someone with more knowledge than me. thanks for the help

Heli-coil will work fine. Best bet is to pull the head first so you don't get aluminum shavings in the cylinder

there is a sparkplug insert . i like it better than a helicoil . i ahve put them without pulling head with no probablem . put some heavy berring grease on the threader and that will acumilate most if not all the shavinge and after the work is don spinn motor over to blow out any shaving . you can wash cylinder out by pourinh a gass oil mix from tank and then spinnover with plug out . i did one at the lake and never no probablem . maby just lucky . had to go fishing
