I just installed a Helix 7 Si g3, I know that it has temp & gps speed. Question is I still have the paddlewheel speed & temp from my old unit still installed & I see there is a Y cable available to connect the paddlewheel to the Helix. Does anyone have a preference for one speed & temp over the other ? I have read a few comments elsewhere that some didn’t care for the gps speed. Trying to decide if I should get the Y cable or just use what the Helix already provides.

It really depends where you are boating and if you are fishing, are you trolling.

Gps will give you speed "over land", how fast you are moving in relation to earth.

Paddlewheel will give you speed over the water, which can be very different if you are boating in river current.
Gps may show you moving upstream at 1 mph, but the paddlewheel will show the water moving under you at 3 mph.

Or Gps may show you moving down stream at 5 mph, but with a 3mph current, your lure is only moving downstream at 2 mph.

If not in current, either will work fine.

Both measurements are FYI only for most people so it doesn’t matter one way or another.

Both can come in handy to fisherman if there is a need and they know when and how to apply the data
