hello guys this is my update on my searay 220 DA 23 foot 5.7L 260 horse power.<br /><br />the first time i try to crank the engine the whole carb got flooded lot of gas just pour out from the troat, i wait for about twenty min then re start again it fire right up, i have the mechanic time the engine took it out for a test run, man the boat runs like a dream. the next day i took to the on the water gas pump about three miles before i put the gas it would not want to restart, after cranking cranking it fire up it did it one more time that day so my ????is what is the simptom of a bad coil or fuel pump????

What year and make is this project boat engine and drive?<br />The symptoms could be fuel related (was the carb flooding again)? <br />Coil could be bad, yes, but did you have spark? If you had spark, it wasn't the coil.<br />Do you have a points ignition system? Have you tuned up the engine with new points, condenser, cap and rotor, new spark plugs. Have you checked the fuel filter. Could be getting water in the carb from water in the tank.<br />Could be lots of things.<br />First things to check.<br />1. Ck for water in fuel filter & Carb.<br />2. Ck for fuel squirting in to carb.<br />3. Ck for spark

hey don wazz up glad you did not leave this forum thank god,, <br /><br />this is a electronic no points.<br /><br />new plugs and wires tune up, new fuel water seperator, new risers alpha one drive with new water pump install new roto the cap did look good so i did not change it.<br /><br />ok don when this happen and you try to restart it kinda like smoke coming from thew carb with every crank,<br /><br />to me it seems when this happen and you try to give it gas the carb was not spitting gas with every push of the shift then all of a suden i heard the carb spitting gas that when it re start and run fine it dont cut of while running only when when i stop to fish and re start

almost forget when i first start the engine i heard a loun banging noise coming from the port side of the engine,<br /><br />it sound more when the engine is at idle, i trace the sound wiyh a peice of hose to my ears and found that it was coming from the exhaust y pipe so i thing it must be the flappers, the mec said that is a big buk fix so in my tool kit i went and tear the the risers and ect in les than twenty min behold the flapper with one legh gone it only was hanging on one leg man man the sea water was right there should i take out the boat befor i replace the flappers??? <br /><br />i already order them any way. thanks

2 possibilities come to mind. <br />Low fuel pump pressure (Volume of fuel) or a problem with the accelerator pump system in the carb.<br />Since a fuel pump isn't usually so stop and go, I would check the accelerator pump and check ball under it (if it has one). Still ain't got a clue as to the year.

Well, that serial number was for your drive, not engine. If your engine is actually an 89 and not an 88 (2 different manuals) you have a posssibility of 3 different carbs.<br />Mercarb 2bbl, Weber 4bbl, and the Qjet.

sorry the serial is 0c617082 the carb is a rochester 4 barrel

Yep, that's the Quadra Jet carb. The accelerator pump is probably shot....... happens all the time.<br />You can either rebuild it yourself if you know how, or send it out for repair or get a new one.

update again don i change out the pair of bad exhaust flappers took her out and she run like a hare stop and fish around and she restart with no problem,,<br /><br />one ?? please<br /><br />sopose the flame aresstor was touching one terminal on the coil will that stop it from start??<br /><br />the reason i ask is that day when i got it to restart is when i notice the flame arstor fell of and was touching the coil.<br /><br />thanks for any inpt<br /><br />ges i will just drive it lol

If the flame arrestor is still touching any metal and touches EITHER of the coil connections you will have no spark.

thanks for the up date on this <br /><br />ok last night it kinda act up again only once and i make about six stop fishing. <br /><br />i think i will give it some new sparkplugs been as how the are the same plugs i use to do the testing in the winter <br /><br />i will also put a new coil<br /><br />anyway she runs like champ, i did not put it wide out throttle as yet i am running a 19 pitch ss prop it gets on plane real quick, but i think it might be a little too big . meant the prop will find out when i make one more tune up and hit her full throttle, what rpm should i look for ?? <br /><br /><br />thanks
