My question is I have a 20" transom and I'm interested in a 1971 50hp johnson outboard would this motor fit my transom?

Don't know You will need to measure from the transom clamp on the motor to the plate above the prop. Should be about 22" for you to be able to use it.

yes, the 71 Johnson 50 hp motor came in several models.
If you can provide a model number, we may be able to give you an answer.
