I have a 1987 Mercruiser 5.7 i/o with a omc outdrive. Im new to boating and dont know to much about them yet. I bought it at the end of last summer and only had it out like 4 times before i had it winterized. I was getting it ready for this season. I hooked the hose up to flush it out and it took a couple of turns for it to start. Which i think is normal but when it started it to sounded great! After looking around the motor pretty much just being nosey i saw that there was water caming out from this 4-5 inch brass cylinder like thing. It looks like its leaking at the seam in the middle.(lol sorry dont know how else to explain it. Wish i would of taken a pic). I think its the water pump but not sure. I also noticed that it looks like it was patched before. Like i said im new to boating and trying to learn so please be nice lol.

Re: HELP 1987 Mercruiser 5.7 leaking water

Well, it's probably either a Mercruiser or an OMC but not likely to be both.
Next thing after identifying is, where is the water coming from? If you are mechanical you may be able to describe where the water is coming in. If you can't you may want to get someone with more familiarity with Chevy V8s as that is the engine in there.

lets get a picture posted of the part in question, then we can give a definite answer

and jb weld is never a permanent solution - might get ya by for a bit but eventually it will fail
