My 9.9 has a single anode plate ("zinc") on the gear housing under the anti-vent. plate immediately ahead of the water intake. The screw holding it on (7/8" #3 phillips 9 threads) is seized. I hesitated to apply heat close to the plastic water intake cover. The screw is a taper and looks similar to a wood screw. Would you fellows kindly tell me how to get it out without bugging the threads on the housing? I need to change the zinc. Thanks!

Re: Help! 1992 Mariner 9.9

i prefer a product called "breakfree" some folks here seem to swear by "PB blaster".... there is another group that really likes 50/50 ATF/acetone. I would say try the mouse milk (penetrating oil) of your choice....wait a few hrs....try it again...wait try it again... add a small amount of heat... try it again... try to tighten it a lil...try again to loosen it. add a lil heat... maybe try chilling with ice..then heating. i have been known to use a hammer and a screwdriver i didnt care about and put the screw driver to the screw...hit it with hammer..and crank on wrench/vicegrips attached to screw driver trying to alternatingly tighten and then loosen.

I am sure someone of more experience than i will chime in.
