My nephew has a 82 50hp merc. Started it this year but had to hand choke it. Took it out the first time after turning it off to fish it would not start back with the key. We started it back by jumping the solenoid. We assumed the solenoid was bad and ordered a replacement. We also replaced the plunger in the electric choke because the plastic piece was broke.

Today he hooked up the new solenoid and put the plunger in. Now the choke acts like it isn't getting power and the only power on the solenoid is straight from battery no matter if the key is off or in cranking position? He says he has it wired right but I wasn't there. The choke wire was never unhooked so it has to right. He has yellow with stripe connected to top small post and black to bottom small post. small post are to the right. Right big post is ran to starter Main from battery plus smaller red wire is to the left big post.

Can anyone confirm the wiring? If the wiring is right can someone tell me what to try next?

Thank you

The small red wire should be on the battery side of the solinoid other than that it's right.
