Hi,

After replacing the head gasket on my engine, it won't restart.
The engine is an OMC 15S10S, that's a saildrive with twostroke engine, based on an Evinrude powerhead. It probably stems from 1978.

Head gasket was replaced after the engine overheated. I have a spark on both plugs. Plugs smell like petrol when I take them out, and I get white/blue smoke from the exhaust.
I haven't got the tools to measure compression, so not sure about that. Everything else seems to be OK.

What could be wrong??????

Thanks, I'll give it another try.

Let you know how I get on.

Btw, the carb was cleaned last summer, but the engine never ran after that. Could the fuel in the carb go bad, or water get in???

If it overheated you might have problems. You need to test the compression. Very important. To see if the new gasket is sealing or not. The gauges are cheap to buy or borrow one. Did you check the head for warpage when it was off?

No, did not check for warpage.

If I check compression, how much do I need?
