Newbie. Engine was rebuilt 6 yrs ago before siiting the last 4. Replaced impeller, wiring harness, spark plugs rebuilt carbs, thermostat. The engine runs beautiful for the first mile from the marina then suddenly loses power, will not rev over idle speed. When I get home the engine is running fine again able to rev at high rpm, took carbs apart, no water, no blockage. Back to the water, same thing occured. Fuel lines are full of fuel, bulb was tight. Any ideas!!!!!!! Need Help.

Re: HELP! 83' 50 hp loss of power

Welcome to iboats. check spark when it drops rpms. sounds like a coil is getting warm and failing. the swap the coil postions completely. if the problem follows the coil, you know it the coil. if not the power pack. hope you changed the impeller, could be running hot. that would also cause your problem, and could sieze the motor. read this: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086

something to consider: reving your motor beyond what is required to keep it running without the backpressure on the exhaust that comes from being submerged carries a risk of thermal runaway and potentially severe consequences.
