I need to put a new prop on my 140 hp Mariner outboard and I want to make sure I don't screw it up. I took off the old prop and there was a large metal washer/spacer behind it.

The new prop is a bit longer than the old one (1/2 inch) and makes up the differnce of the washer/spacer so the nut sits on the spline at approx the same spot . My questions are:

- Is the washer/spacer required for the new prop?
- how tight do I need to wrench down the nut?
- do I need to bend any of the tabs on the tabbed metal colar that sits below the nut?
- is this operation as strightforward as it seems? Take off old, grease, slide on new - am I missing anything?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks -

Make sure you got the right size prop. the washer behind the prop is a Thrust Washer it must stay there. the metal tabs are to be bent to the nut to keep it locked in place. Im not sure how much to tighten it, I tighten mine by holding the prop in one hand and the wrench in the other. Hope this helps.
