Hi,

I recently purchased a 1990 Cajun Fish & Ski with a Merc 150 XR4 hanging off the end of it. I've taken it out once and I had a hard time getting it to start. The guy I bought it from told me to turn the key and push it in for 10 counts (pushing the key is some sort of choke). After that go ahead and turn the key further to get it to start...it wouldn't.

So, I tried to crank it about 10 times with no luck...Finally, I lifted this lever on the throttle casing that said 'Fast Idle'. And then it started.

Of course, after it was warm, it started great, first try everytime...

Should I start it with the fast idle on? Should I use the bulb in the fuel line to sort of prime things? Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Jeff

Yes you should lift it to fast idle and continue holding in on the choke while you are cranking. Also I always watch about overrevvingwith the lever lifted. Then it should start.Don't know how long it had been siting or how long since a tuneup has been done but if it has been a while then you might need that. As for the bulb if there is no leaks in the fuel system and it starts ok without squeezing it then I don't bother with it. Good luck
