Hello, newbie here.

Ive done a couple of days reading posts, but cant find anything that is exactly like what I have so I thought I'd give a quick synopsis for the experts.

2005 Trophy Pro 2352 with a 5.0 mercruiser i/o.

Took it about 20 miles offshore 2 wknds ago with no problems.

Took it about for Labor Day and went about 10 miles and shifted into neutral and the motor died. Was able to start it right up and then the audible alarm started sounding. It died a few more times and was unable to go more than 10 ft without it dying again. Alarm was sounding every couple of minutes.

I was able to make it to a sandbar where it sat a couple of hours. On the way back, it started up fine but alarm was still sounding. Alarm sounded every couple of minutes the entire ride back. All gauges read fine. Temp. read about 190.

Any Ideas? Thanks again...

Re: Help, Alarm...

Howdy,

Sounds like you're operating in salt water......Is your engine an EFI type engine?

If not, your alarm system may be just a simple "ground-to-alarm" type system like the older models.

The alarm sensors simply ground a (common) wire to sound the alarm. (TEMP, oil press, drive oil) They're frequently all connected to the same alarm, any one of them will activate the alarm.

Also, if the single wire that is connected to all them is frayed anyplace, and it touches "ground", it will activate the alarm.

190 degrees is a little high for any marine engine (yours is raw water cooled?)

Have you had it serviced recently? has your raw water pump been replaced? (ever?)

If you want to troubleshoot yourself, you'll need an OEM service manual.

I am no "expert". But I would start at the raw water pump.

Regards,

Rick

Re: Help, Alarm...

Just letting everyone know that my problem was a bad idle air control sensor.

All is good...
