Hi. I was thinking of converting this motor to a jet. One person told me I would have to have the hull modified. Not sure what he meant. I was thinking maybe the transom was too short? Would it be possible to buy a new motor already set up with a jet that would work? Not sure how involved modifying the hull would be. The boat is a Rogue Marine Scrambler and I thought it was already designed as a jet boat. Any info or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Also I was not planning to do any of the work myself.

Many of the boats that have jets have what is called a tunnel hull, it allows the just intake to be higher in the water and eliminates cavitation.

Hey brihen,
Couple of things to consider...you’ll lose about 30% of the hp of the motor with a jet leg. So your 60 will act like a 40ish horse. You would need to raise the motor to accommodate a jet leg...check out Outboard Jets, I think you’ll find more info there. I have a jet on a 140 Suzuki on a 18’ Alumaweld, 8 degree bottom works very well and you can run in extremely shallow water.
Cheers....FK..

the boat is a 16ft Rogue Marine Scrambler. It has a V bottom but I am not sure of the degree.

Mmm, putting a jet on that without bumping up your motor size would be a real let down. I had a 115/90 jet on our 18’, was okay with two people. Hard to get out of the hole with 4 people, went up to the 140/105 Suzuki and made a new boat out of it...

I would be willing to look at a new motor with more HP. The boat is rated for up to 75HP.

This was the jacking plate installed at a shop in Snohomish County when I bought the boat. I brought it into Canada from Washington state. The aluminum wings on the intake are a must, helps ram more water into the intake and improves the performance.

What kind of water are you running on? Rocky river or lake? I am trying to tell you how to live your life but a v hull is not the best design for a jet outboard, you might want to consider selling and buying a boat and motor that suits your needs for the water you are running on.

Mostly rivers like the upper Williamite as far as needing a jet goes. Also lakes and the Columbia where of course I don't need a jet.

so I ended up having a 90hp Merc 2018 put on it. They had to raise up the transom first
