Hello!

Got a new HDS-7, and I was all excited to try and practice operating it in a simulation mode. But it will not power up!
Am I missing something, or do I have a dud unit???

1. Power source: regulated power supply.
2. Connections: red to (+) with a fuze in bet, black to (-).
3. With a meter, I confirmed 14v at the end of the power cable before connecting it to the unit (with the right polarity in connectors 7 and 8 per this lowrance page
4. Pressed the power button briefly, held it pressed longer, pressed it with the "pages" button pressed -- nothing is coming up... :-(

Is there an internal rechargeable battery that must be charged? Please tell me there's some stupid little thing I'm overlooking...

Thanks,
Zevi

Your link doesn't come up without a username and password.
If you have good power and good ground to the unit after all the fuses and connections. Then you need to contact the manufacturer or the seller. You now have a problem that is a warranty issue, not a forum issue. Yes it could be a faulty unit, but not something you are going to fix.

Thanks for the reply, Don.

I don't know why they need password and username (I did not provide any). In any case, the article is attached.

Not sure I completely see the You now have a problem that is a warranty issue, not a forum issue. Yes, if it's a faulty unit then of course I'm not going to fix it myself. But isn't that what these forums are about: maybe someone had a similar issue and I'm overlooking something simple that can save me the trip/shipment? Maybe someone can enlighten me about this rechargeable battery? I think that asking the "communal knowledge base" if anyone had a similar experience or thoughts about something I might be missing/overlooking is a forum issue.

I would hook it up to a car battery to see if it will work. If it works on the car battery, your power supply may not have enough current output to support the unit.

Parker -- that worked!!!

The battery is out of the boat for the winter, and I tried to power the HDS with it this morning in the garage. No problems powering up!
All the documents and references that I saw, pointed to about 0.7A current consumption, so I figured using a power supply that is rated up to 3A should work. I guess it may be a defective power supply (old borrowed unit). I'm going to buy one from Radio Shack today so I can operate the HDS without dragging the boat's battery into the house... :)

Many thanks for your suggestion.
